Michael, Joel and Robert enjoying campus life!

This D.R.I.V.E. program has been very busy with twenty-six students in attendance. The most exciting event has been the introduction of college dorm life to the program. For the first time we have students living full time on the Keuka College campus. Like all college students they have enjoyed late nights, late mornings and even the occasional afternoon nap to prepare them for evening campus events. These young men and women have been learning about independent living responsibilities such as maintaining a meal schedule, keeping a clean environment, and doing laundry. Our students have taken full advantage of the social networking that enables every student to grow personally, socially and emotionally. We have witnessed an increased self-esteem in all of them. These students are proof of the amazing achievements the D.R.I.V.E. program is capable of. Thank you to all that made these smiles possible.

Celebration Tree at Keuka Lake School

Each and every part of this constantly growing mural is a celebration of a child or staff member at Keuka Lake School. Our school follows The Responsive Classroom philosophy, and part of this philosophy is celebrating the positive each and every day. As part of our pledge to become a stronger team, we want to reinforce all of the positive moments in our school, and give recognition to those who make our school the great place that it is. Please stop by and see our work in progress, or better yet, start one of your own!

Carnival 2011

Fun at the Carnival

Sullivan Day Hab held their annual Carnival at the Fireman’s Field again this year. It was, of course, another huge success, with exceptional teamwork and fun activities for all. Months of planning went into making the Carnival a huge success. A select group of consumers and staff attended the all-day event. As in years past, the Keuka Lake School joined us for the fun filled activities. When folks arrived the DJ played a variety of music that promoted dancing and singing. Then carnival goers could also try their hands at a variety of games, including a bean bag toss and a color roulette wheel to win prizes. The prizes were beanie babies, which were a big hit with the young and the young at heart. The artists at Skylarc offered face painting and a paint your own necklace activity. As usual, the horse drawn wagon was one of the highlights of the carnival with everyone wanting to ride or watch the wagon and the giant horses. The animal show, which was another return from last year, had some new animals, including an alligator, a coyote, an armadillo and a wallaby. When the children left, our consumers enjoyed a delicious lunch. It was a busy and tiring day, but the smiles made it all worth it.
