Keuka Lake School  (KLS) is an early childhood program for children with and without developmental delays from birth to 5 years old. Through a partnership with the Penn Yan Central School District, a Universal Pre-Kindergarten program is offered at the Keuka Lake School. The Keuka Lake School is located within the Penn Yan Elementary School building.

Keuka Lake School was established in 1985 and the program has grown substantially in the years since then. Our staff consists of New York State dual-certified special education/general education teachers, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, a physical therapist, a school psychologist, a registered nurse, and well as several support staff.

Keuka Lake School offers a variety of services, which can be provided in the child’s home, daycare, preschool or at KLS. Services available include the initial evaluation, special education, universal pre-kindergarten, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, psychology, and nursing. Services are offered during the regular school year as well as during a six-week summer program.

The Keuka Lake School provides services to children in Yates, Ontario, Schuyler and Steuben Counties as well as several school districts located in these counties.

The Keuka Lake School is licensed and regulated by the New York State Education Department, the New York State Department of Health and the Office of Children and Family Services.

Early Help Makes a Difference:

Some children develop their skills more quickly than others. Normally, children catch up with each other at some point; however, there are children who need extra assistance to catch up with their peers. Early help can make a difference.

There may be other concerns that you have about your child's development. Your child may need help if he or she:

- Seems very limp or very stiff when picked up

- Does not react to sudden sounds or voices by three months
- Does not make sounds by three months
- Does not follow moving objects with his or her eyes by three months
- Does not raise his or her head when lying on stomach by three months
- Does not laugh, smile or "babble" by six months
- Does not sit unassisted by 10 months
- Does not walk unassisted by 18 months
- Cannot repeat spoken words by 18 months
