The Arc of Yates provides guardianship services to individuals who have no family or natural supports to act as guardian. Services are provided directly though the Arc of Yates Guardianship Committee.

The Arc of Yates guardianship committee is a group of volunteers who have an interest in supporting people in need of guardianship. Many committee members are legal guardians for their own family member. In addition to personal experience, members may have an area of proficiency that assists the committee with decision making. Medical, legal, and spiritual expertise are some areas that enable the committee to make informed decisions in the best interest of the individual.

Committee members regularly visit each person for whom the Chapter provides primary guardianship to learn his or her personal wishes, preferences, beliefs and needs. The committee keeps these at the forefront when advocating for and making decisions that are in the best interest of the individual. Whenever possible the individual is involved in the decision making process.

The Arc of Yates can also provide support and assistance to family members who may be considering guardianship for a loved one.

If you are interested in learning more about the Arc of Yates Guardianship Committee, or would like further information about guardianship in general, please contact Priscilla Jakupca, Guardianship Coordinator at (315) 536–7447 or pjakupca@arcofyates.org.

On Wednesday April 3, 2019 the Arc of Yates opened the Arc Autism Corner Activity and Resource Center. This was made possible by a generous grant received from The TRIPP Foundation. Over 150 staff and community members explored the activity room and tested out the various fidgets, lights and technology. John Hassett, OT at the Arc of Yates stated, “This room provides comfort and relaxation, with independence and the opportunity to explore.”
Ally Kimball, an adult on the spectrum, stated “I like the sensory room because I am fascinated by the patterns and bright colors. The music is calming and there are many interesting objects and playthings to use.”

This resource is open to all members of the community and their families and is appointment based. If you would like to schedule your one on one Exploration Session please contact Deb Fabris-Coon at dfabriscoon@arcofyates.org or 315-414-1370.
