Community Support

 

Community Habilitation 

Community Habilitation services are provided in the community to assist in developing and enhancing the skills necessary to live in the community as independently as possible. 

All individuals participate in developing and implementing their own service plan centered on their strengths, needs, and choices. Common focus areas include: 

  • financial management 
  • household maintenance 
  • health care 
  • personal hygiene 
  • nutrition 
  • community inclusion 
  • budgeting 
  • safety 
  • social skill development 

Services are provided by qualified staff in a group or one-on-one setting that takes into account the person’s lifestyle and commitments. 

Respite

 

In many families, caring for an individual with a developmental disability often falls on the parents, siblings, and other family members. Respite offers temporary, short-term care for individuals so caregivers can take a much needed break or see to personal matters. Services are provided by qualified staff in a one-on-one setting in the home, or in a recreation group setting in the community. Respite takes into account the individual  needs of the family and the individual with a developmental disability.

Family Support Services 

Family Support Services (FSS) are ancillary services offered to individuals with developmental disabilities that live with their families. Family Support Services offers programs and supports for family caregivers, enhancing family stability and preserving family unity. 

Goals include: 

  • To support quality of life for an individual and their family. 
  • To prevent premature or inappropriate out-of-home placement 
  • To reunite and strengthen families 
  • To enhance parenting skills 
  • To maximize the potential of the family member with a developmental disability 

The service also facilitates the Family Reimbursement Program which reimburses expenses for health and safety goods and services. The program enhances family stability by relieving the financial burden of caring for an individual with developmental disabilities.

Individualized Support Services

Individualized Support Services (ISS) assists adults who wish to live independently.  ISS is a housing subsidy calculated based on an individual’s income.  For those eligible for ISS may also provide a transition stipend.

Arc of Yates Welcomes Executive Director

The Arc of Yates Board of Directors is pleased to announce that the Agency has entered into an agreement with Arc of Seneca Cayuga for the services of Executive Director, Mr. Allen Connely effective August 7th.  Board Chair Michele Howland noted "We are fortunate to bring Mr. Connely into the Arc of Yates community.  Our agreement with the Arc of Seneca Cayuga to share his vision and leadership is an ideal strategy to strengthen and broaden the scope of services we provide. "

 

Connely began his professional career in the international business arena where he held senior management roles for the Amway Corporation.  Having worked in over 20 countries, upon his return to the states Connely began his own company, supplying quality assurance inspection services to the automotive industry.  Prior to his current role he served as the Executive Vice President of Keystone Independence Management, a Pennsylvania based non-profit organization that offers management and leadership services to non-profit organizations.  While at Keystone he consistently demonstrated the ability to ensure sustainability of non-profit organizations as well as providing jobs for the people they support.  During his tenure at Arc of Seneca Cayuga he has proven to be a dynamic, innovative leader who demonstrates compassion for the individuals served by the Agency. 

 

As Executive Director, Mr. Connely will oversee 175+ employees who are committed to providing opportunities to persons with intellectual and development disabilities.  “I am very excited about being part of the Arc of Yates.  I look forward to getting to know everyone at the Arc and in the community” noted Connely.  The Board of Directors is confident that together with its dedicated staff, Mr. Connely will maintain and grow the excellence of the Agency’s service offerings.
