Family Education and Training
Family Education and Training (FET) Services are available to assist individuals with developmental disabilities in getting the support necessary to achieve their goals. Family Education and Training is not a direct service; it is a service that assists families/caregivers in getting access to information and training so they may continue to support individuals with developmental disabilities who are under the age of 18. An individual’s independence and their inclusion in the community are the basis of this service. A wide range of topics can be discussed through Family Education and Training services such as educational systems, health and personal care, information about disabilities, mental health care, and more.
Family Education and Training’s purpose is to assist families to make educated decisions about services for an individual with a developmental disability. It also provides families with information about the individual’s disability and the impact it has on families.
To be eligible for Family Education and Training services, an individual must have a documented developmental disability and be enrolled in the OMRDD Medicaid Waiver.
